Archive of Józef Weisbach
1947-1971

In brief: Józef Weisbach was born on October 8, 1899 in Nisk. He took part in 1918 in the battles of Przemyśl and Lwów and in the Polish-Russian war of 1920. remained in the military serving in various formations. In 1938 he became head of the training department of the General Command of the Academic Legion in Warsaw. He was wounded and captured during the September 1939 campaign, remaining as prisoner in the p.o.w camp in Murnau until 1945. Upon his liberation he was assigned as director of the Polish Culture and Education section in Langberg. Subsequently he was incorporated into the Polish Second Corps in Italy. He emigrated to the USA in 1949. he actively cooperated with several independence and veteran organizations. He wrote articles for the Polish press and was member of the editorial board of the weekly “Ameryka-Echo”. He died in May 1971 in Chicago.


Contents: posthumous recollections, correspondence with Józef Piłsudski Institute of America, various correspondence, handwritten manuscripts of articles and occasional texts, typewritten writings.
