May 3 Constitution Day celebrations in Warsaw, 1929 – photo from the IJP collection
On the occasion of the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad, Polish Flag Day, and May 3 Constitution Day, we extend our warmest wishes to all members and friends of the Institute, as well as to the entire Polish community.
We are grateful to all those who preserve the Polish language, culture, and history. This is a special time that brings us together through our white-and-red colors, pride in our heritage, and a shared commitment to Polish traditions—no matter where we live.
During this solemn period, we especially commemorate the anniversary of the Constitution of 3 May 1791—the first in Europe and the second in the world. It was a bold effort to modernize Poland’s political system and safeguard its sovereignty. Although it remained in force for only 14 months, it continues to stand as one of the cornerstones of Poland’s republican tradition and a lasting source of national pride.
At the Institute, we preserve a facsimile of the Constitution of 3 May, along with many fascinating publications devoted to this period. We warmly invite you to visit us and explore our library in person.
