On May 11-13, 2023, the ceremonies in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Jozef Pilsudski Institute in Warsaw, the 80th anniversary of the Pilsudski Institute of America, and the 75th anniversary of the Pilsudski Institute of London, took place in Warsaw, Poland.
The celebration of the jubilees of the Jozef Pilsudski Institutes was an extraordinary event that attracted numerous participants from Poland and abroad. The ceremony was held under the honorary patronage of Andrzej Duda, the President of the Republic of Poland. The remembrances took place in Belweder Palace, by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Warsaw, at the General Staff Academy in Rembertow, and at the Jozef Pilsudski Museum in Sulejowek. The commemoration was also an opportunity to honor outstanding representatives of science and art. During the official gala held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the Board of Directors of the Pilsudski Institute of America awarded the following prizes:
• Justyna Chlap-Nowakowa, Ph.D., received the Joseph Conrad Literature Award,
• Prof. Wlodzimierz Suleja received the Waclaw Jedrzejewicz History Award,
• Jan Pietrzak received the Ignacy Paderewski Arts and Music Award.
In 1923, on the initiative of Jozef Pilsudski, the Institute for the Research of the Recent History of Poland was established. Following the death of the Marshal, the Institute was renamed the Jozef Pilsudski Institute for the Research of the Modern History of Poland. The outbreak of World War II suspended the activities of the Institute in Poland. In July 1943, the Pilsudski Institute of America was established. It continues the tradition of the Institute for Research in the Modern History of Poland, founded in Warsaw in 1923.
We would like to thank all the Institutions from Poland that supported these celebrations, and the Organizing Committee for the coordinating the celebrations.
